Icon Q & A

What is the Icon Aesthetic System?

The Icon laser uses heat energy to stimulate natural healing for a number of skin concerns. This fractional laser treatment system includes several energy settings and multiple handpieces to administer a variety of aesthetic treatments.

What skin concerns can the Icon laser treat?

The Icon laser system offers a range of aesthetic treatments. These include:

Intense pulsed light (IPL) phototherapy

IPL treats issues such as sun damage and pigmentation. The laser energy breaks up pigmentation with Optimised Light™ photorejuvenation technology, then your body disposes of the unwanted pigments. Gentle pulses of intense light target the skin discoloration to erase sun spots, and rosacea redness.

Removal of unwanted hair

For permanent and effective hair removal, seek Icon laser treatments. The energy from Icon targets the hair follicles and renders them unable to produce hair, but doesn’t harm the surrounding skin. Treat areas such as your bikini line, arms and legs, underarms, and face with Icon laser hair removal.

At Kirk Family Practice, you can opt for laser hair removal from a small area, such as under your arms, to larger areas such as your back, bikini area, or legs.

Skin resurfacing

The Icon offers fractional laser technology that resurfaces your skin. You experience improvements in the appearance of scarring, hyperpigmentation, texture issues, sun spots, fine lines and wrinkles, and stretch marks. The laser’s microbeams promote the growth of healthy tissue by boosting your natural production of collagen, a protein that strengthens skin structure.

What happens during Icon laser treatment?

Icon laser treatment can sometimes cause minor discomfort, but most people tolerate the treatments quite well. If you’re concerned about any uncomfortable sensations, ask about having Dr. Kirk apply a topical numbing cream prior to treatment. The system is safe for all skin types.

Each treatment with the Icon laser lasts 20-60 minutes, depending on the procedure you’re having done. Most aesthetic goals require 4-6 sessions total.

Recovery also depends on what treatment you’re having performed. Laser hair removal requires no downtime, for example, while you may need to lie low for about four days following skin resurfacing to allow redness to dissipate.
